Monika Petrillo --

Bio --
Monika Petrillo has contributed to over 75 movies and TV shows as script supervisor. A life-long adventurer, she earned her pilot’s license at age 24 and soon thereafter set out to fulfill a dream of flying around Australia. This inspired her to direct and produce her own film, the documentary “Flyabout”, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival. After many more screenings, including at Oshkosh, on TV and at dozens of Ninety-Nines Chapters, the film is now available on Amazon. Monika most recently wrote and directed the award-winning short film “Wink”. She lives in South Pasadena, CA. With her husband and two teenage kids.

The History of Instrument Flying


Alan Johnson The strange and courageous story of the development of instrument flying. Did you know that in 1929, U.S. Army pilots took two blindfolded homing pigeons aloft in a biplane and threw them out in a scientific experiment to see if they could fly "under the hood" without killing themselves? This tale and many others that are humorous, inspiring and tragic tell of how instrument flying started as only a dream and then became an everyday activity in the last century. You don't have to be an instrument rated pilot to enjoy this story from aviation's past. Come and join Alan Johnson as he shares his collection of vintage books, charts, pictures and early instruments as he describes the birth of instrument flight.
